April may be Earth Month, but for the sustainability crew Earth month is every month. So this month, we're getting together to chat about a new idea for a crew initiative that will take place in September: Lights Out Tulsa.

The Audubon Society's Lights Out initiative already exists in many urban centers around the U.S. to help migratory animals, particularly birds, navigate more easily without the threat of light pollution. The initiative asks one simple thing: for cities to turn off any unnecessary lights at night for a short period of time.

The goal is to get as many Tulsa businesses and residences to turn off their lights during peak migration times in September. This simple initiative could help save many migratory and inspire Tulsans of all ages to grow more interested in conservation and sustainability efforts.

This meeting will be an informal place to discuss what we need from our community to make this happen in September and identify ways to encourage participation.

Why we exist: To empower the Tulsa community to make healthy and sustainable choices.

Things we care about:

  • Environmental sustainability
  • Health and wellness
  • Advocating for sustainable practices and policies
